fall home tour

This past year has been an adventure for Matt and I. We left our sweet little town of Lincoln and moved up to the mountains. This was a huge move for us since we loved our house, community and being so close to our friends and church.

We moved just past Auburn, CA in the Sierra Nevada's. We live at a campground and are surrounded by 40 acres. We are so blessed to live on the property with Matt's sister and brother in law. God has been so good to us and everyday I am so thankful for the chance to live in this beautiful place.

The house we moved into was vacant and has been a camp guest house. We were able to paint and decorate however we wanted to which I was super excited about. This house quickly turned into my favorite home we have ever lived in so, here we go! My first ever (fall) home tour.

Living room

I was on the hunt for the perfect grey in our main living area and let me tell you it wasn't easy. I ended up going with Sherwin Williams Mindful Grey

This candid photo of us on the beach is priceless :)

I love having this built in bookshelf. I've never had a built in anything before. I'm thinking of painting it white.

Don't worry it's a bb gun :)

Probably my favorite purchase ever was this chandelier. I found it on craigslist for $150.00. Craigslist has been good to me :) It adds the perfect amount of glamour to the house.

cool girl hat

Hats are my favorite accessory they add character to any outfit and most importantly they cover up a bad hair day.
I have never bought a hat online until now. I was nervous because I love to try things on. I am pretty picky so buying things online can be more of a pain because I don't want to pay to ship things back.

I found The Oxford Trunk on Instagram and when I saw the Kate hat I knew it would belong on my head someday :). They were sold out and when it came back in stock they were offering free shipping so I snagged it up.

date night outfit: floral jumper

Matt and I were in Tahoe this last weekend for his birthday. Most of the nights he played in the WSOP tournaments but one night he took a break and we had a great date night.
I recently picked up this adorable floral romper at target for get ready...$13.97 yes folks its true! I have never rocked a romper quite like this but I didn't want to loose money on the deal, ha! It's fun and different and since I've been trying to think outside the box with my fall/winter fashion this was the perfect out of the box piece.

And here is the face I wanted to make the whole time, it was 40 degrees out, I was a little cold!!!

dslr newbie

Earlier this year I purchased my very first Dslr camera. This was something I had been wanting for a long time and I was so excited to finally have this little baby all to myself.

After a lot of research on Canon vs Nikon the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 was the winner. It is the lightest and smallest Dslr on the market which was a huge selling point for Matt. Apparently he didn't think I was strong enough to carry around a classic Dslr...and he's probably right ha
Oh and it's touch screen, super cool!

Since the instruction manual didn't quite capture my attention I signed up for a 3 week class on the basics of my Dslr. I learned a ton.

I liked the class so much I just finished my second one, The Photographers Eye, it was so great my friend Audrey and I were able to take it together. Our assignment last week was kind of a funny take 50 pictures of your bathroom or kitchen with no repeat angles.

Guess which one I chose haha...you are correct I chose the kitchen. Who wants to take pictures of their bathroom?!

I played around with all sorts of things like angles, camera modes and lighting. Here are some that were my favorite.
They are not award winners by any means but it was still fun. Here are a few that were my favorite.

I call this one life :)

I can't handle it :) she's so cute!

I am signed up for the a photoshop elements class that starts next week. I am having so much fun figuring what kind of photographer I am, even though it can get overwhelming.  If you have been thinking about upgrading to a Dslr camera I suggest doing your research and don't get caught up in getting the fanciest or most expensive model.

Here are some of my tips on buying your first Dslr:
  • Start with a beginner model
  • Don't buy the kit lens. Spend more money and buy everything individually. I didn't have the patience to save up and do this boo for me.
  • Have fun and don't be scared
  • Take your camera everywhere with you. You didn't spend hundreds of dollars to let it sit around.
