dslr newbie

Earlier this year I purchased my very first Dslr camera. This was something I had been wanting for a long time and I was so excited to finally have this little baby all to myself.

After a lot of research on Canon vs Nikon the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 was the winner. It is the lightest and smallest Dslr on the market which was a huge selling point for Matt. Apparently he didn't think I was strong enough to carry around a classic Dslr...and he's probably right ha
Oh and it's touch screen, super cool!

Since the instruction manual didn't quite capture my attention I signed up for a 3 week class on the basics of my Dslr. I learned a ton.

I liked the class so much I just finished my second one, The Photographers Eye, it was so great my friend Audrey and I were able to take it together. Our assignment last week was kind of a funny take 50 pictures of your bathroom or kitchen with no repeat angles.

Guess which one I chose haha...you are correct I chose the kitchen. Who wants to take pictures of their bathroom?!

I played around with all sorts of things like angles, camera modes and lighting. Here are some that were my favorite.
They are not award winners by any means but it was still fun. Here are a few that were my favorite.

I call this one life :)

I can't handle it :) she's so cute!

I am signed up for the a photoshop elements class that starts next week. I am having so much fun figuring what kind of photographer I am, even though it can get overwhelming.  If you have been thinking about upgrading to a Dslr camera I suggest doing your research and don't get caught up in getting the fanciest or most expensive model.

Here are some of my tips on buying your first Dslr:
  • Start with a beginner model
  • Don't buy the kit lens. Spend more money and buy everything individually. I didn't have the patience to save up and do this boo for me.
  • Have fun and don't be scared
  • Take your camera everywhere with you. You didn't spend hundreds of dollars to let it sit around.

Love it Ashley! Looks like you have a cooking life going on!

Also love the owl and framed print. Did you make the print?

Have fun with your new toy!
